The Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to controversial Ghanaian social commentator Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, popularly known as Counsellor Lutterodt, after he appeared before the court on charges of offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Lutterodt pleaded not guilty when the case was called.
The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of GH₵50,000, with two sureties who must be justified before the conditions can be fulfilled.
Charge Against the Social Commentator
Prosecutors charged the outspoken counsellor under Section 207(1) of the Criminal Code, 1960 (Act 29), which relates to offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.
According to the prosecution, statements allegedly made by Lutterodt in a viral video had the potential to incite public unrest.
Police Account of the Incident
Presenting the facts to the court, the police stated that Lutterodt, a 50-year-old biomedical clinical engineer residing at SSNIT Flats in Adentan, Accra, appeared in a video that began circulating widely on social media.
Investigators said the video, which surfaced on Monday, March 9, 2026, was shared on Facebook and on the online platform Kwesi TV.
In the footage, the accused allegedly called on some youth in Accra to take action over claims regarding the burial of Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
According to the police, Lutterodt was heard suggesting that if the allegation that the musician had been buried in his residence was true, “Ga boys in Accra should not wait for the Police but move to the residence with pickaxes to find where the body has been buried.”
Prosecutors argued that such comments were capable of provoking public disturbance.
Viral Video Sparks Concern
Police further informed the court that during ongoing investigations, another video surfaced online showing a group of youth gathered at the East Legon residence of Daddy Lumba in Accra.
Investigators believe the incident may have been influenced by the earlier remarks allegedly made by Lutterodt in the viral video.
Case Continues
Authorities say investigations into the matter are still ongoing, and the case is expected to continue in court as prosecutors gather more evidence related to the incident.
The development has once again placed Counsellor Lutterodt — known for his often controversial public commentary — at the center of national discussion.
